Another Commando First!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I recently spoke at Search Engine Strategies - Local, a new conference on local online marketing. The gig was totally sold out, and the sessions were packed wall-to-wall.
The standing room only crowd blew me away, not because local online marketing is the fastest growing segment in the advertising world, but because Denver's "Great American Beer Festival" was going on right across the street and these people were more interested in Internet marketing.
You've gotta wonder when several hundred otherwise rational adults prefer discussing local search to sampling handcrafted brewskis. All the major Internet and local media companies attended, and you could have cut the excitement in the air with a cold-filtered India pale ale.
ComScore, the firm that researches consumer online behavior dropped a bombshell with their announcement that the vast majority of Internet users (68%) had searched for a local business in July and that was a whopping 43% increase over the prior year.
43% annual growth? Are they kidding? Without beer?
There isn't ANY audience growing by 43% annually. That is if you don't count the number of former Senate pages who received icky emails from John Foley.
The proliferation of local search marks a profound shift in consumer behavior. For those of us involved in local marketing, we are in the eye of the tornado without a house trailer.
I couldn't sit on this information, so I'm hosting a webinar to share the details and the implications with you.
Steve Dennen, Director of Product Management at comScore, will present his detailed research and show exactly what's going on in local search. You can't effectively market your local business without understanding where the users are. I was surprised to learn that some of the most heavily advertised web directories have extremely low usage.
Challenging the comScore assumptions, statistics and methodology will be Peter Krasilovsky of Krasilovsky Consulting, and author of the LocalOnliner.com blog. Pete has a knack of cutting through the hype and ferreting out the crucial nuggets of information that aren't apparent to the casual beer drinker.
I'll also have a local business owner who does his own web marketing so that Steve and Pete can put the research into practice and show where local marketing dollars are best spent.
My sponsors are generously paying the $59 fee for the first 250 attendees. Phone lines will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Redneck Riddles
Buford shares his waterbed with his pets.
All but two are hound dawgs.
All but two are raccoons.
All but two are possum.
How many critters sleep in Buford's bed with him?
Pimp My Marketing Webinars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pimp My Site
I'm producing the "Pimp My Marketing" Webinar Series where we'll show how to radically improve the effectiveness of local advertising.

This is the only educational program of its kind, because we dive inside the guts of local marketing without being a thinly disguised sales pitch. This is the real deal, and you won't find it anywhere else.

I've always been fanatical about finding ways to improve local marketing without spending too much money, and my subscribers tell me that they want it too.

We'll focus most sessions on local Internet marketing and optimization, but occasionally I'll have a guest presenter from traditional media. (Only if they have something worthwhile to share.)

Upcoming Webinars:

Thursday, October 26 11:00 AM Pacific
The Inside Story on which Local Websites REALLY have the most users, and how you can use the information for your benefit.

Presenters: Steve Dennen, Director of Product Management, comScore, Peter Krasilovsky, of Krasilovsky Consulting, and we'll have a local business owner who does his own web marketing to keep it real.

Wednesday, November 15 - 12 Noon Pacific Time.
Windows Live Local - Behind the scenes at the world's most powerful technology company, and their unconventional approach to the new local Internet.

Starring Roberto "Bobby" Figueroa, Director Product Manangement - Local Search, Microsoft and Greg Sterling of Sterling Market Intelligence.

Everyone seems to forget that Microsoft was a pioneer in the world of local advertising (remember Sidewalk?). Well, their new Windows Live Local is going to rock.

Date: TBA
Pimp My Website - a world renowned search engine optimization expert shows a small business owner how to modify his website to dramatically improve his presence and positioning in the search engines. The beautiful thing about search engine optimization is that once the initial work is done, the huge increase of traffic is free.

What is a "webinar" anyway?

A webinar (web + seminar) is a great way to learn from experts without having to travel. Webinars combine three methods of communication: phone, online presentation, and a chat window for typing questions.

You call into a teleconference using your telephone.

Your Internet-connected computer shows the visuals making the presentation much more informative and valuable.

Best of all, these webinars are free!

My sponsors have generously offered to cover the $59 registration fees for all attendees.

This Week's Redneck Riddle

Buford bought cans of Duff Beer for his Daytona 500 watch party.

If he gives 3 cans of beer to each friend, one of his friends will get only 2 beers (and be really ticked off).

Alternatively, if he gives 2 cans of Duff Beer to each friend, he will be left with 15 beers (and a whale of a hangover).

How many cans of Duff Beer did Buford buy for the party and how many friends are there?

Email your answer to duff@redneckriddles.com

The winner will receive a copy of Barry Maher's brand new "Getting the Most Out of Your Yellow Pages Advertising".

Barry totally updated this classic masterpiece on Yellow Pages advertising and addresses the major changes that have occurred in the industry.

This book is considered the bible on Yellow Pages.

This list price for the paperback is $69, but I'm selling instant downloads of the entire book for only $24.99.

To improve your random chances of winning, please include your name, company name, and mailing address (because I can't email the prize to you).

I draw the winner the day before I send the following newsletter, so keep answering until the polls close.

I've been bragging about Kerry Randall's book on Yellow Pages Advertising for Lawyers as being simply the best book I've read for Yellow Pages advertisers. The problem was that it was targeted toward lawyers and didn't address other business types.

Wisely, Kerry updated the wonderful tips and marketing plans for any business that advertises in the Yellow Pages.

He sent me a copy for review, and I liked it so much that I bought the exclusive rights to market the electronic version.

His book is loaded with very specific examples and exercises that are easy to follow. I can honestly say that every advertiser (even a guy with a little in-column ad) will benefit by reading this book.

I've seen, and even promoted other very good YP books that sell for $50 - $150, but nothing cuts to the chase like Winning the Yellow Pages War. Kerry focuses on the critical issues that will have the biggest impact. He uses solid examples and shows ads created using his techniques.

I'm selling copies of Winning the Yellow Pages War for only $14.99. That price is far too little for the value the book contains.

However, my mission as the Yellow Pages Commando has always been to help more people be successful with their Yellow Pages advertising rather than to get rich off a few that can afford a higher price.
Make payments withPayPal - it's fast, free and secure!

I'll email the book to you as a PDF document that can be read and printed using the free Adobe Acrobat reader.

I offer a 100% money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied with your investment. You have nothing to lose.
